As Susan had finished the silence in the teacher's room made her feel vulnerable, as if she had touched upon something inappropriate.

"Frankly, I don't see how we could deny him the right to express his identity in this way:
we are talking twelfth grade here, after all..."

Ewan, from geography.

"No, of course not. It's just the way he has asked me to part take in his presentation... You can't blame me for having some reservations, can you?"

"Yes, in fact we can!"

The false experiment

The test situation consisted of a large wooden box with hinges, mounted on an upright. When opened it showed two cut away parts at the bottom, which formed a circular opening as it was closed. The setup was completed by a wooden block to sit on. There were several lying around of different sizes, to accommodate each and every next test person.

When the heavy wooden box was closed shut it locked out all sound. With her upper body encaged in it, the test person would only experience total silence and darkness for the first five minutes. After that a dim light would shine from the inside top of the box. There would be a soft humming sound and in front of her several small digital screenes would spring to life.

“Hello Angie, glad you came. Sorry I wasn’t able to greet you properly. Now I need a
shower and change. I’ll leave you with David. Don’t take too long David, OK ?”

“OK ma, you go and finish off . I’ll leave Angie for a few more minutes and then untie her too”

As mother shuffled out of the room with one hand pulling on her still knotted crotch rope,
Angie waited patiently for David to finish up. Once mother left David loosened her gag scarf to leave it around her neck.

Twenty minutes later Angie shrugged her shoulders as she tried to relieve the aches in her shoulders and asked herself why she put herself through the uncomfortable and at times painful experiences. But then she thought again. She might hate skiing, but the apre-ski was out of this world.
